GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team earned its third-straight sweep with a 7-0 win over Georgetown (Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Lackey Tennis Center.
The Blue Raiders (13-2, 5-0 MSC) claimed the doubles point behind a strong performance from all three pairings. No. 3-ranked duo Anastasiia Ivanchenko and Mayra Gisone struck first with a 6-1 win on court two, followed by a 6-0 sweep from No. 20 Aina Domingo Bernabeu and Mariangeles Mateu on court three. The No. 2-ranked pairing of Anastasiia Vorobiova and Heyka Rodriguez completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at the top spot to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead.
Domingo Bernabeu, ranked No. 18 nationally, gave the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead in singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win on court one. Ivanchenko followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own on court four to stretch the advantage to 3-0.
Mateu, ranked No. 23, clinched the match for Lindsey Wilson with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court three, pushing the score to 4-0. The Blue Raiders continued to roll, as No. 8-ranked Vorobiova won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, followed by Gisone's 6-0, 6-1 result on court five. Martina Cortal sealed the sweep with a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 position.
The Blue Raiders return to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 12, as they travel to face Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
