MARION, Ind. – Maxwell Wordui captured the NAIA Men's Long Jump National Championship, and
Tremaine Browne and
Eliza Hagens earned All-American honors during the second day of the NAIA National Championships on Thursday at the Wildcat Track & Field Complex.
Wordui bested the 23-man field with a jump of 7.74 meters, coming just .01 meters shy of breaking his school record in the event. He becomes the program's eighth national champion and first in the long jump since Goabaone Mosheleketi in 2018. Wordui's first three jumps totaled distances of 7.56, 7.53, and 7.53 meters. After fouling on his fourth attempt, Wordui hit his championship-winning distance of 7.74 meters on the fifth jump.
Browne also earned All-American honors in the long jump. He finished fourth with a jump of 7.45 meters. Browne hit his fourth-place distance in his first jump.
Hagens earned All-American status in the women's 5,000-meter racewalk. She finished eighth with a time of 26:27.94 to become the third Blue Raider in program history to earn All-American in the event and the first since Reini Brickson in 2013.
Isabel Urrutia Lemus finished 11th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.38.
Kayly Guthrie finished 15th in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.99 while
Cambell Rawlings finished 26th in the men's 100 with a time of 10.67.
Hannah Reid finished 12th in the women's 400 with a time of 57.23 while
Daniel Otibo finished 23rd in the men's 400, finishing in 49.34.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of
Ta'shya Cramer,
Kayly Guthrie,
Sancia Smith, and
Hannah Reid qualified for Friday's final, finishing in ninth with a time of 3:53.35. The quartet competes for All-American honors on Friday at 4:15 p.m. CT.
Royce Mentor,
Enric Fernandez,
Miah Chatmond, and Otibo teamed up in the men's 4x400-meter relay, finishing in 27th with a time of 3:18.55.
The third and final day of the NAIA National Championships gets underway on Friday at the Wildcat Track & Field Complex.
