Men’s Track & Field Second After First Day of MSC Outdoor Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. The Lindsey Wilson men's track and field team wrapped up a strong showing on day one of the Mid-South Conference Outdoor Championships at James H. Taylor II Stadium on Sunday.

The Blue Raiders had a successful opening day, earning several top-five finishes and accumulating 62 points to sit in second place overall. They trail only Cumberlands (Ky.), who leads the field with 105 points. 

In the track events the Blue Raiders did well as Cambell Rawlings, Demarcus Robertson, and Daniel Otibo finished fourth, sixth, and eighth with times of 21.77, 21.83, and 21.86 seconds in the 200-meter prelims. Rawlings and Robertson also competed in the 100-meter prelims coming in ninth and tenth with times of 10.69 and 10.71. 

In the 4x800-meter relay Nick Cummins, Justin Stearns, Logan Bullock, and Daniel Aikas finished first with a time of 7:51.27 earning All-Conference honors. 

Xavier Smith finished eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:33.28. In the 5,000-meter racewalk, Santiago Nunez came in third with a time of 28:29.34 earning All-Conference honors. Jace Cowman finished fourth with a time of 32:34.63. 

In the field events, the Blue Raiders dominated the long jump, claiming the top three spots. Maxwell Wordui captured the conference championship with a leap of 7.40 meters earning an NAIA 'A' standard and All-Conference. Tremaine Browne finished right behind placing second with a leap of 7.24 meters earning NAIA 'B' standard and All-Conference. Loreno Luces finished third jumping 6.83 meters earning All-Conference honors. Dontae Rucker and Jayden Wentz placed sixth and eighth with jumps of 6.68 meters and 6.09 meters. 

Leeshawn Johnson, Bryan Coleman, and Austin McCombs represent the Blue Raiders in the  hammer throw. Johnson finished second with a throw of 44.77 meters earning All-Conference. Coleman placed fifth with a throw of 41.60 meters while McCombs placed ninth with a throw of 37.13 meters. 

Lindsey Wilson will look to carry this momentum into the final day of the MSC Outdoor Championships beginning at 9 a.m. CT on Monday at James H. Taylor II Stadium.
