Women's Tennis Win MSC Tournament Title, Beats Georgetown 5-2

Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team claimed their second straight Mid-South Conference Tournament title with a 5-2 win over Georgetown (Ky.) College today at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

With the win Lindsey Wilson earns an automatic bid into next week's NAIA Region XI Tournament in Glasgow. Georgetown will receive one of the two at-large bids for being the MSC Tournament runner-up.
Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson grabbed a 2-1 lead following doubles' play.

Lindsey Wilson freshmen Natalia Yakimovich and Fadzai Mawisire swept Georgetown's Emily Kerrick and Sarah Yost 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles match to take a 1-0 lead.

In No. 2 doubles, Lindsey Wilson sophomore Candela Castanon and senior Florencia Bertoletti defeated Georgetown's Kensie Jenkins and Peta Niehaus 8-1 to push the lead to 2-0.

The second-seeded Tigers earned their first point of the match following Charis Gambill and Megan Watts' 8-6 win over senior Marla Rogers and sophomore Zuzana Rakyta in the No. 3 doubles match.

Castanon earned the Blue Raiders a point at No. 1 singles following her 6-0, 6-2 win over Kerrick. Mawisire swept Jenkins 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-1 lead.

Watts scored the Tigers second point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Rogers at No. 6 singles, but Bertoletti closed out the match and the championship with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.

The remaining matches were halted beacuse Lindsey Wilson had the necessary five points to win the match.

NAIA No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson and Georgetown will be joined by two teams from the TranSouth Conference to make up next week's region tournament field to be played at Gorin Park in Glasgow. Lindsey Wilson will serve as host of the event which begins on Friday, April 28. The championship will be played on Saturday, April 29 with the winner receiving an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament.
