MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team's quest for the program's first-ever NAIA national championship ended today in the national semifinals.

The third-seeded Blue Raiders fell to No. 2-seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University 5-2 at the Mobile Convention Center. The match had to be moved indoors after heavy rains in the Mobile area today washed out play at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

The semifinal loss marks the third straight year Lindsey Wilson's season ends in the national semifinals. The Blue Raiders lost the last two seasons to eventual national champion Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.).

Fresno Pacific advances into tomorrow's finals against top-seeded AUM at 9 a.m. CT.

Lindsey Wilson fell behind after dropping all three doubles matches. Fresno Pacific won the three team points with wins of 8-2, 8-5 and 8-4.

Fresno Pacific's Katia Sabate increased the Sunbirds' lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lindsey Wilson freshman Darya Yablonskaya at the No. 3 singles.

The Blue Raiders battled back with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles to cut the Sunbird lead to 4-2.

Lindsey Wilson senior Candela Castanon defeated Fresno's Angelina Minova 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 while Blue Raider junior Fadzai Mawisire won 7-5, 6-4 over Anna Karavayeva.

Fresno Pacific closed out the match when Amandine Ferot defeated LWC freshman Laurie Anciaux 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 singles.

Lindsey Wilson sophomore Jessica Weyreuter lead 7-6 (5) and sophomore Agnieszka Wojtowicz trailed 2-4 when their matches were halted after Fresno Pacific reached five team points.

Lindsey Wilson finishes the season as the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament champions and NAIA Region XI champions.
