Women's Soccer Routs Southern Nazarene 4-0, Advances to NAIA Quarterfinals

Box Score

DECATUR, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half, combined with a lockdown defensive effort to shut out Southern Nazarene (Okla.) University 4-0 in the second round of the NAIA National Championship at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex.

Junior midfielder Caitlin Burke wasted little time netting the game-winning goal in the fourth minute. Senior forward Yolanda Hamilton's pass inside the box was collected, but dropped by the keeper, allowing Burke to rebound the ball for the easy goal.

Sophomore midfielder Elisha Fry added to the Blue Raider lead with a 10th-minute header off a perfect pass from sophomore midfielder Ida Gregersen's corner kick. Fry was able to hold her ground and receive the pass without making a move to head the ball down the middle of the goal.

Senior midfielder Lorna Heaton and freshman midfielder Mia Persson erased any remaining doubt of a Lindsey Wilson win with goals in the 54th and 77th minutes, respectively, to give the Blue Raiders their final 4-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson controlled the offensive advantage in the game, taking 15 shots with six on goal compared to just five attempts from Southern Nazarene with two on goal.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 4 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Dec. 2 against the winner of Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) University and Vanguard (Calif.) University at the Jack Allen Recreation Complex in Decatur, Ala.
