Box Score MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team's upset run ended today with a 5-0 loss to No. 2 seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University in the NAIA National Semifinals at the Mobile Tennis Center.
After beating two seeded teams to reach its fourth straight national semifinal, unseeded Lindsey Wilson struggled for the second consecutive year against Fresno Pacific. The Blue Raiders fell to the Lady Sunbirds 5-2 in one of last season's semifinals.
Fresno Pacific swept the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Lindsey Wilson doubles teams of junior Jessica Weyreuter and freshman Vanja Tomic and freshman Trina Slapeka and sophomore Darya Yablonskaya played the top two Fresno Pacific doubles team tough but ultimately fell by scores of 8-5 and 8-6.
Up 3-0, the Lady Sunbirds needed just two singles wins to advance and they achieved the two wins at No. 4 and No. 6 singles to advance. Fresno Pacific faces defending champion and top-seeded Auburn University Montgomery Saturday in the championship.
Lindsey Wilson ends its season 13-5.
Prior to today's match, two members of the women's tennis team were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Weyreuter and junior Brandi Abston were honored for being at least a junior standing and maintaining at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. The pair was two of 121 women's tennis student-athletes to receive the honor.
