COLUMBIA, Ky. - Freshman forward Chris Ochieng scored his first two career goals as the fourth ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team jumped on top of Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College early and never looked back.
Sophomore defender Michael Azira wasted little time giving Lindsey Wilson (3-1-0) the momentum it needed to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Park (Mo.) University on Sept. 7 with a goal in the third minute.
With Azira waiting in the middle of the box, senior defender Shaun Francis hit a pinpoint cross from the left corner of the field for Azira to use a header to slip the ball past Roberts Wesleyan (1-3-0) senior keeper Brion Ehman in the right side of the net.
In the 22nd minute of the first period, Ochieng connected on his first goal of the day to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 cushion. Sophomore forward Moses Aduny made the smart play near the Raiders' goal to try an extra short pass to a running Ochieng who was able to make an easy kick into the back of the net.
Lindsey Wilson went into intermission with a 2-0 lead after its defense limited Roberts Wesleyan to no shots in the period.
The halftime score lasted until the 82nd minute when Ochieng put the Blue Raiders ahead 3-0 with his second score of the night. The play started with freshman defender Marko Vogeli busting loose with the ball down the right sideline. Vogeli created enough space for a clear cross that Ochieng was able to head into the goal.
Lindsey Wilson dominated the possessions all game as Roberts Wesleyan was rarely in position to score. Roberts Wesleyan finished the game with no shots, compared to Lindsey Wilson which scattered 13 shots at the Raider keeper.
Ehman was credited with four saves for the game while giving up three goals to the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson's next action is on the road at 7 p.m. CT on Sept. 19 against University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio.
