COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Despite a straight-set 6-1, 6-0 win by No. 2-seed Jessica Weyreuter, the Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team came up empty handed, falling 5-1 to Shorter (Ga.) College on Thursday in the season opener at the Lindsey Wilson tennis courts.

All three Blue Raider doubles teams took a loss to open the match. The No. 2 doubles pair of Trina Slapeka and Agnieszka Wajtowicz came the closest to a win, falling 8-5 to Coralie Fayard and Emmanuelle Beaucoudrey.

Weyreuter tallied the win for Lindsey Wilson over Michaela Tingets, while Blue Raider No. 5-seed Marina Pacifico lost to Nienke van Staveren 6-3, 6-2 and No. 6-seed Lindsey Sheene fell 6-0, 6-0 against Carolina Brigneti to seal the win for Shorter.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at noon CT on March 9 at Union (Ky.) College.
