Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team took one step closer to the NAIA National Tournament with a 5-1 win over Ohio Dominican University in the Unaffiliated Tournament semifinals today at the Lackey Tennis Center.
The top-seeded Blue Raiders (14-4) face host No. 2-seed Georgetown (Ky.) College at 3:30 p.m. CT this afternoon in the tournament finals with a berth into the national tournament on the line. Georgetown defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) University 5-1 in the other semifinal.
Lindsey Wilson grabbed a 2-1 lead following the three doubles matches with Ohio Dominican.
Senior Jessica Weyreuter and sophomore Trina Slapeka won 8-2 over ODU's top doubles team of Aline Mariano and Katelyn Rodgers. In the No. 2 doubles, Lindsey Wilson's Slavica Milanovic and Agnieszka Wojtowicz defeated ODU's Nathalia Braga and Ruchika Alahakoon 8-6 to take the 2-0 lead.
The Panthers climbed back in the match with a win at No. 3 doubles. Krista Derry and Caroline Orians defeated Marina Pacifico and Lindsey Sheene 8-6 to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
Slapeka and Weyreuter wasted little time in singles play give the Blue Raiders a 4-1 lead.
Slapeka closed out her match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Braga. Weyreuter followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Mariano.
Pacifico closed the match soon after with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Rodgers to give the Blue Raiders the 5-1 win. The rest of the matches were stopped after the Blue Raiders reached the five points necessary to advance.
Today's finals will be the second time the Blue Raiders have faced Georgetown. Lindsey Wilson won the other meeting 6-3 on March 23.
