No. 2 Men's Soccer Erupts for 10-0 Win against Pikeville

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Five different players scored in the first half and Chris Williams put together a career-high performance with four goals to help the second ranked Lindsey Wilson College men's soccer team speed past the University of Pikeville (Ky.) 10-0 on Sunday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Taking part in the early scoring explosion for Lindsey Wilson was junior Mat Luak, senior Chris Williams, freshmen Tom Moody and Philip Sandgren and senior Samuel Asante with one goal each in the first half.

Williams scored three more goals in the second-half to finish off the career night. The Flint, Wales native had scored two goals total in each of his prior two seasons. Senior Moses Aduny and junior Eddy Campbell also added a goal in the half.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game with a 51-1 advantage in shots as it rarely allowed the Bears a possession across midfield. Twenty six of Lindsey Wilson's shots were on goal, compared to none for Pikeville.

Blue Raider freshman keeper Yuta Nomura played the entire game without having to make a save to record the shutout. Pikeville keeper Sheldon Thomas kept busy all night, collecting 16 saves.

Just eight minutes into the first half the Blue Raiders found themselves on top 1-0 as Moody passed to a cutting Luak inside the box for a goal that he finished from just 10 yards out.

Ten minutes later Williams finished off a perfect corner kick by Moody with a header that sailed directly into the back of the net. Williams made his run from the right side of the box and by the time the ball met him he was just five yards out for the easy finish.

Arguably the most exciting goal of the game was Moody's strike to put the Blue Raiders up 3-0.

Pettersson played a cross to his classmate from the left side that he took on one bounce and booted through the air into the far right corner of the goal.

The next Lindsey Wilson goal was scored off a Pikeville possession. Unable to move the ball forward, the Bears attempted to elude the Blue Raiders by sending the ball backwards, but Pettersson intercepted the pass and touched it over to Sandgren for the close-range score.

Asante finished off the first-half scoring with an unassisted strike from nearly thirty yards out that he rocketed past Thomas to end the half with the Blue Raiders up 5-0.

The shot-heavy first half ended with Lindsey Wilson holding a 29-1 advantage in strikes, including a 12-0 lead in shots on goal.

The Blue Raiders added a goal in the second half in the 59th minute as Williams sent a shot into the back of the net off a rebound, then ten minutes later Williams scored again with a straight-away shot inside the box off a pass from Luak.

Aduny scored in the 74th minute inside the box off a cross from freshman James Elliott, followed by an 86th minute goal by Campbell and 87th minute score by Williams to close out the game.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday at Campbellsville (Ky.) University.
