No. 16 Women's Tennis Dominates Top Seeds to Beat Georgetown 6-3

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The 16th ranked Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team got off to a good start at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, topping Georgetown (Ky.) College 6-3 in the Mid-South Conference home opener on Tuesday in the first match at the facility opened in October of 2010.

Lindsey Wilson (4-2, 1-0 MSC) opened the match with a quick 2-1 lead after doubles' play, and then put away Georgetown (1-4, 0-1 MSC) with wins in the first four singles' positions.

The tandem of junior Trina Slapeka and sophomore Slavica Milanovic continued to be strong at the top doubles' spot, beating the Tigers' Kaitlyn Thompson and Adrienne Bartlett 8-4. Sophomores Laura Vergara and Edelmira Ferri worked harder for the second win, topping Haley Hart and Natalie Hill 9-8 (9-7).

After wins at the top-three singles' spots, the Blue Raiders had claimed the win with a 5-1 lead. Georgetown added a pair of points in the final two singles' slots in play after the match was decided.

Slapeka defeated Bartlett 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1, Milanovic beat Hart 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 and Vergara won 6-3, 6-1 against Hill at No. 3 to help finish off the conference win for the Blue Raiders.

Ferri posted the final win for Lindsey Wilson at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2 against Emily Krick.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2:30 p.m. CT at Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College in Pulaski, Tenn.
