Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis dropped a 5-4 decision on Tuesday to the University of the Cumberlands.
The No. 16-ranked Blue Raiders fall to 5-4 on the season with the non-conference loss as Cumberlands improves to 5-7 overall.
Lindsey Wilson fell behind 2-1 following doubles play.
For just the third time in nine doubles matches this season, the top tandem of Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic dropped their doubles match. The Cumberlands pair of Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Kelcey Bauer defeated Slapeka and Milanovic 8-4.
The lone Lindsey Wilson doubles point came from the second doubles match as Laura Vergara and Edel Ferri defeated Donna Strong and Alissa Ellis 8-3. The win is Vergara and Ferri's fifth in seven doubles matches this season.
Cumberlands' Kaitlin Smith and Shelby Muff beat Lindsey Wilson's Rocio Cardo and Ashley Phillips 8-4 in the third doubles match.
In singles play, Lindsey Wilson's top three singles seeds all won, while the bottom three seeds all fell in the 5-4 loss.
Slapeka improved to 7-2 overall in singles play with a 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-4 win over Thirumalaichelvam. Milanovic defeated Bauer 6-1, 6-1 and Vergara -- the reigning MSC Women's Tennis Player of the Week -- beat Strong 6-1, 6-0.
Ferri, Cardo and Phillips all suffered setbacks in the loss.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 1, as the Blue Raiders host Cumberland (Tenn.) University at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
