COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Rocio Cardo joined Laura Vergara for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, and then continued her strong play into singles where she topped Shelby Muff in come from behind fashion to help the Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team beat University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 6-1 on Saturday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

While the dreary day caused the match to be delayed for three hours, Cardo made the most of her time once it began, winning the No. 4 singles' match 3-6, 7-6 (8) followed by Muff retiring in the third set.

Before that, the Blue Raiders held a 2-1 advantage in the match after wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Junior Trina Slapeka and sophomore Slavica Milanovic teamed up at No. 1 for an 8-2 win against Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Kelcey Bauer, while Cardo and Vergara were 8-0 winners against Donna Strong and Alissa Ellis.

The Patriots got their lone win of the day at No. 3 doubles as Muff and Kaitlin Smith topped sophomores Edelmira Ferri and Ashley Phillips 8-3.

Vergara started off singles' play with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win against Strong at No. 2, while Milanovic beat Bauer 6-0. 6-0 at No. 3 and Slapeka won 7-5, 6-1 against Thirumalaichelvam at the top seed.

The fifth and sixth singles' matches did not finish once the match had been decided in favor of the Blue Raiders with inclement weather in the area.
