Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team advanced to the Mid-South Conference Tournament finals tonight with a 5-2 win over University of the Cumberlands.
The second-seeded Blue Raiders (12-5) faces regular season champions and top-seed Campbellsville (Ky.) University at the Campbellsville Tennis Courts at 2 p.m. CT. Lindsey Wilson lost to the Tigers 5-4 on April 13 in Columbia.
Campbellsville beat No. 4-seed Georgetown (Ky.) College 6-2 in the other semifinal tonight.
Lindsey Wilson opened with a 2-1 lead over Cumberlands (8-12) following doubles play. The pair of top-seeded Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic beat Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Kelcey Bauer 8-2 while the Blue Raiders' No. 2 doubles team of Laura Vergara and Rocio Cardo defeated Donna Strong and Alissa Ellis by the same 8-2 score.
Lindsey Wilson's Ashely Phillips and Edelmira Ferri lost to Shelby Muff and Kaitlin Smith 2-8.
The Blue Raider trio of Vergara, Milanovic and Cardo all won their singles matches in straight sets to help Lindsey Wilson claim the 5-2 win.
With the win, Lindsey Wilson earns a chance to play for its seventh straight MSC Tournament title on Monday against Campbellsville. The winner earns the conference's automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament.
