Box Score MOBILE, Ala. -- The NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship top overall seed Fresno Pacific (Calif.) University lived up to its lofty billing, knocking off No. 17 seed Lindsey Wilson College 5-0 on Wednesday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Playing with just five student-athletes, the Blue Raiders found themselves at a 2-0 disadvantage with a default loss at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles before the match had started.
The Sunbirds picked up another quick point at No. 2 doubles as Yumiko Justin and Cristina Valladares topped sophomore Laura Vergara and freshman Ricio Cardo 8-2. The Blue Raiders battled at No. 1 doubles before junior Trina Slapeka and sophomore Slavica Milanovic ultimately lost 9-7 against Fresno Pacific's Erika Januskova and Marie Boura.
Fresno Pacific -- now up 4-0 overall -- needed just one win in singles' action to win the match. The decisive win came at the No. 3 seed as Milanovic dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Valladares.
The Sunbirds advance to the quarterfinals where they will face No. 8 seed Brenau (Ga.) University at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday at the Mobile Tennis Center.
Lindsey Wilson finishes the season with a 14-6 overall record, while Fresno Pacific improves to 19-4.
