Women's Tennis Cruises Past No. 18 Martin Methodist 8-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's tennis team won a battle of nationally ranked teams today at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The No. 14-ranked Blue Raiders (8-2) dismissed No. 18-ranked Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 8-1 to pick up their seventh straight win of the season.

The Blue Raiders claimed two of the three doubles points after winning in the top two doubles positions.

Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic defeated Paloma Cortina and Anastasia Aleshcheva 8-4 in the No. 1 singles while Diana Gerlakh and Laura Vergara won 8-4 over Victoria Ryjak and Jeanna Stanford in the second-seeded doubles match.

The lone RedHawk point of the day came from the No. 3 doubles where Maria Charrys and Rachel Wolfe beat Anna Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo 9-7.

The Blue Raiders dominated singles play winning each position in straight sets.

Slapeka -- ranked No. 7 in the ITA -- won 6-3, 6-0 over No. 33-ranked Cortina to claim the Blue Raiders' fifth point of the day and the win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 20 as the Blue Raiders host Indiana University Tech at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
