MOBILE, Ala. -- Lindsey Wilson is heading back to the second round of the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship for the sixth straight season after routing No. 22 Spring Hill (Ala.) 9-0 on Tuesday morning at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Badgers' season comes to an end with a 9-5 overall record, while the No. 11 Blue Raiders improve to 16-3.
While the overall score resulted in a shutout, every doubles match was a battle.
The top-seeded Blue Raider duo of Trina Slapeka and Slavica Milanovic outlasted Shelby Fritscher and Tara Montegut 8-4, while No. 2-seed Diana Gerlakh and Laura Vergara topped Elise Michaelis and McCall Hedrick by the same score.
Anna Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo finished off the doubles' sweep with an 8-5 decision against Monico Castello and Ruth Bourque.
Lindsey Wilson didn't lose a set in singles and never gave up more than two games in a single set.
Gaprindashvili finished first at the No. 5 seed, beating Castello 6-0, 6-1, while Milanovic posted the clinching fifth point with her 6-1, 6-1 win against Montegut.
In all further rounds teams will not finish out individual matches after the win is sealed, but in first-round play all of the Blue Raiders completed their wins.
Slapeka won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 against Fritscher, Gerlakh was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No. 2 against Hedrick, Vergara topped Michaelis 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 and Cardo wrapped up play winning 6-1, 6-2 against Maggie Leads at No. 6.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action in the second round at 9 a.m. CT against No. 6 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) at the Mobile Tennis Center. The Blue Raiders last played Point Loma in 2010, losing 5-0 in the second round of the NAIA Championship.
