Men's Soccer falls to Cumberland 1-0 in MSC Tournament semifinals

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Cumberland's (Tenn.) Luke Wilson scored the lone goal in the Bulldogs' 1-0 upset of top-seeded Lindsey Wilson in the Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Tournament tonight at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Wilson scored an empty-net goal in the 79th minute to send the No. 5-seeded Bulldogs (7-12-1) into Friday's tournament finals.

Despite out-shooting Cumberland 17-3 in the match, Lindsey Wilson (14-3-2) failed to find the back of the net against the stellar play of Bulldog goalkeeper Ian Hamilton.

Hamilton ended the game with seven saves, including three saves in the final four minutes.

Wilson scored off the sole mistake of the night from the Lindsey Wilson defense.

Following a turnover in the midfield and a serve towards the Lindsey Wilson goal, Wilson applied pressure to a trio of Blue Raider defenders, including goalkeeper Yuta Nomura.

The Blue Raider defenders collided freeing up Wilson to dribble into the penalty area for an uncontested goal and the 1-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson managed four more shots in the game only to be turned away each time.

The Blue Raiders dominated the stat sheet with a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal and 15-3 advantage in corner kicks.

But the resilient Bulldogs did enough to get the result.

Lindsey Wilson will now wait for an at-large berth into the national tournament. The national tournament bracket is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Nov. 18.
