Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis advanced into the Mid-South Conference Tournament finals with a 5-0 win over fifth-seeded Cumberlands (Ky.) today at the Boone Tennis Center.
The Blue Raiders (16-2) face the winner of No. 2-seed Cumberland (Tenn.) and No. 3-seed Campbellsville on Saturday in the championship match.
Lindsey Wilson opened the match by winning all three doubles points.
Laura Vergara and Alejandra Galvis notched the first Blue Raider point of the day with an 8-1 win over Erin Hart and Trinity Goodman in the second-seeded doubles match.
Lindsey Wilson doubled its lead as Sarah Bernos and Anna Gaprindashvili defeated Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Shelby Muff 8-5 in the top singles match.
The third-seeded doubles match proved to be the most competitive match.
The Cumberlands pair of Chanel Williams and Sydni Grimes battled back from down 7-2 against Slavica Milanovic and Diana Gerlakh to cut the deficit to 7-6. But Milanovic and Gerlakh claimed the final game to secure the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win.
Up 3-0, Lindsey Wilson needed only two singles wins to advance.
Gaprindashvili and Rocio Cardo provided the wins at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively.
Cardo picked up the fourth Blue Raider point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Lindsay Collette and Gaprindashvili quickly followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Grimes.
The rest of the matches were halted after Lindsey Wilson secured the necessary five points.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 20, in the Mid-South Tournament championship match.
