Women's Tennis Cruises at NAIA National Tournament

MOBILE, Ala. -- It was a clean sweep today for the No. 6-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team as the Blue Raiders beat Vanguard (Calif.) 5-0 in the NAIA National Tournament second round at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (18-2) advance to Thursday's national quarterfinals against No. 3-seeded Brenau (Ga.). Brenau defeated Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 5-0 today to advance.

Lindsey Wilson captured its 16th straight win today by dominating the five matches that finished during the team match.

The Blue Raiders won all three doubles points while dropping just seven games to the Lions in the three matches.

Slavica Milanovic and Diana Gerlakh started the match with an 8-0 win over Melanie Parker and Anita Taranto in the third-seeded doubles match. Alejandra Galvis and Laura Vergara pushed the Blue Raider lead to 2-0 with an 8-2 win over Nina Pudar and Gabriele Alford in the No. 2 doubles.

Anna Gaprindashvili and Sarah Bernos completed the doubles sweep in top doubles match with an 8-5 win over Juliet Labarthe and Michaele Sullivan.

Lindsey Wilson kept the momentum rolling in the singles play securing the team win with wins at the fifth and sixth seeded singles matches.

Gerlakh and Rocio Cardo each won their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-1 to give the Blue Raiders the necessary five points to advance. The remainder of matches were stopped once the five team points were obtained.

Vanguard -- who entered the tournament ranked No. 11 in the final coaches' poll -- concludes its season at 12-17.

With today's win, Lindsey Wilson reaches its sixth national quarterfinals. The Blue Raiders are 4-1 all-time in the quarters.

First serve with Brenau is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
