MOBILE, Ala. -- Lindsey Wilson women's tennis fell one step shy of playing for a national title after today's 5-1 loss to Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) in the NAIA National Tournament semifinals at the Mobile Tennis Center.
With the loss, the sixth-seeded Blue Raiders close their season with a 19-3 record.
Auburn-Montgomery advances to Saturday's national championship match against fifth-seeded William Carey (Miss.).
Lindsey Wilson took one of the three doubles points in the match as Alejandra Galvis and Laura Vergara cruised to an 8-1 win over Chanel Cunningham and Maria Fernanda Vargas.
As a duo, Galvis and Vergara ended the season 7-0 -- all as the Blue Raiders No. 2-seeded doubles team.
AUM (16-8) won the other two doubles points with convincing 8-2 and 8-4 wins.
Jade Curtis and Tiffany William beat Anna Gaprindashvili and Sarah Bernos 8-2 at the No. 1 match while Morgane Zowczak and Hagar Caro picked up the 8-4 win over Slavica Milanovic and Diana Gerlakh in the third-seeded match.
The Warhawks needed just three wins in singles play to beat the Blue Raiders for a third time in the national semifinals in the history of the national tournament.
Curtis picked up one of the wins in the top-seeded singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Milanovic. Fernanda Vargas added another win in the sixth singles match with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Rocio Cardo.
Zowczak secured the decisive point as she beat Vergara 6-4, 6-3 at the third-seeded singles match to send the Warhawks to the title match where they will attempt to win their third straight national championship and 13th overall.
The rest of the matches were stopped.
Lindsey Wilson concludes its season after reaching the national semifinals for a fifth time. The Blue Raiders won the Mid-South Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2013.
