No. 2 Women's Tennis sweeps Cumberlands to remain perfect in MSC play

COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 2 Lindsey Wilson women's tennis swept University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 9-0 at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex on Wednesday.

Lindsey Wilson (6-4, 5-0 MSC) swept the doubles matches as Alejandra Galvis and Alicia Rodriguez defeated Chanel Williams and Sydni Grimes 8-0 to secure the first point of the match for Lindsey Wilson. This was Galvis and Rodriguez's first doubles match as a team.

The No. 3 team of Jessica King and Ana Helena Pinto defeated Lyndsay Collette and Kaitlin Daugherty 8-0 to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead. King and Pinto move to 3-0 this season at the No. 3 doubles spot and 5-0 overall.

Sarah Bernos and Anna Gaprindashvili secured the doubles sweep for Lindsey Wilson with an 8-5 win over Neesha Thirumalaichelvam and Erin Hart at No. 1 doubles. Bernos and Gaprindashvili move to 2-0 on the season as a doubles team.

Rodriguez won the first singles match for Lindsey Wilson at No. 3, defeating Grimes 6-0, 6-2. Rodriguez is now 4-1 when playing at No. 3 singles and 5-0 in conference play.

At the No. 2 singles slot, Bernos defeated Williams 6-1, 6-2 to move to 5-0 in conference play and 3-1 when playing No. 2 singles this season. The win secured the Blue Raiders fifth straight conference win as Lindsey Wilson took a 5-0 lead.

King, playing at No. 4 singles, defeated Hart 6-0, 6-2 to give the Blue Raiders a 6-0 lead. King improves to 7-2 overall this season and 4-0 in conference play. King is 6-2 when playing No. 4 singles.

At the No. 6 singles spot, Pinto defeated Kaylyn Collette 6-0, 6-1. Pinto moves to 8-1 on the season and 7-0 when play No. 6 singles.

In the final match of the day, Galvis defeated Thirumalaichelvam 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles spot to secure the 9-0 sweep over Cumberlands and remain undefeated in conference play. Galvis was tied 5-5 in the second set, but took the next two games to earn the 7-5 set win. Galvis improves to 3-0 in conference play and 5-2 when playing No. 1 singles.

The Blue Raiders improve to a perfect 45-0 in both singles and doubles matches this season in the Mid-South Conference and 60-28 overall.

Lindsey Wilson is back on the court Saturday, April 5 when the travel to Indianapolis, Ind., to take on No. 21 Marian (Ind.) College at 3 p.m. CT.
