Women's Tennis falls at Murray State in season opener

Box Score

HARDIN, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson women's tennis dropped its 2015 season opener tonight in a 7-0 loss to NCAA Division I Murray State (Ky.) at Kenlake State Park.

The Blue Raiders were competitive during doubles play, but ultimately lost all three matches as Murray State claimed the doubles point for the 1-0 lead. The two teams played NCAA rules where the doubles matches count for a single point.

Lindsey Wilson's Alicia Rodriguez and Jessica King sprinted out to a 3-0 over Andrea Eskauriatza and Erin Patton in the top-seeded doubles match. The Murray duo battled back to win six of the final seven games to win 6-4.

Fiona Curty and Anna Gaprindashvili made it two disappointing losses in doubles play as the pair fell 6-4 to Murray's Alena Vasileva and Suzaan Stoltz at No. 3 doubles. Ana Helena Pinto and Diana Gerlakh dropped the first match of the day, falling 6-1 to Megan Blue and Nancy Karaky in the second-seeded match.

The Racers -- the defending Ohio Valley Conference champions -- proved to be too much in singles as well.

Blue gave Murray State a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gerlakh at No. 3 singles. Eskauriatza added a win at the top-seeded match, defeating Rodriguez 6-1, 6-1 for the 3-0 lead.

Tchakarova claimed the decisive point in the second-seeded match. She beat Gaprindashvili 6-1, 6-1 for fourth team point.

Murray State closed out the match with wins at four, five and six singles for the 7-0 victory.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Feb. 3 as the Blue Raiders travel to NCAA Division I foe Morehead State (Ky.) in Morehead, Ky.
