Box Score BARBOURSVILLE, Ky. -- No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis picked up its first win of the season today with a 9-0 sweep of host Union (Ky.) at the Union College Tennis Courts.
The Blue Raiders (1-2) did not drop a set today in their first action against NAIA competition this season. Lindsey Wilson's two losses this season occurred against NCAA Division I teams.
Lindsey Wilson started the match with the Bulldogs with a 3-0 lead after Union forfeited matches at No. 3 doubles and fifth and sixth-seeded singles.
The Blue Raiders secured the five points necessary for a team win following identical 8-1 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches.
Anna Gaprindashvili and Henar Munoz -- seeing her first action of the season -- dismissed Glenna Young and Summer Manning in the second-seeded match. Jessica King and Alicia Rodriguez -- ranked second in NAIA doubles -- defeated Erika Broady and Ellen Denham to claim the fifth point.
In singles play, it was much the same for the Blue Raiders.
Third-ranked Rodriguez claimed the first singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 decision Broady.
Munoz, Diana Gerlakh and Fiona Curty also earned straight-sets wins to cap the 9-0 team win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 13 as the Blue Raiders travel to NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky in Richmond.
