Morehead State edges Women's Tennis 4-2

MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson women's tennis dropped its second straight match to an NCAA Division I opponent as the Blue Raiders fell to Morehead State (Ky.) 4-2 on Tuesday at the EAGLE Center.

Playing NCAA rules, Morehead State claimed the doubles point by winning two of the three doubles matches.

The teams swapped 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to set up the second-seeded match as the deciding match. Morehead's Andrea LeBlanc and Hayley Wild defeated Alicia Rodriguez and Jessica King in the top-seeded match while the Blue Raider duo of Anna Gaprindashvili and Fiona Curty won the third-seeded match over Maria Orellana and Alex Tachovsky.

The Eagles (2-3) ultimately scored the decisive doubles blow and claimed the 1-0 lead after Dominique Mclean and Ayaka Terashi defeated Diana Gerlakh and Ana Helena Pinto 6-4.

Morehead State quickly moved out to a 3-0 lead with straight-set wins at one and three singles.

LeBlanc defeated Rodriguez 6-2, 6-4 at one singles while Mclean added a 6-1, 6-4 over Gaprindashvili in the third-seeded singles match to move the Eagles within one point of the team victory.

The Blue Raiders (0-2) started their comeback with Gerlakh's 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Terashi in the second-seeded singles match to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Curty followed with a three-set win of her own at four singles. Curty recorded a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Tachovsky to move Lindsey Wilson within 3-2 with two matches to play.

Wild claimed the fourth and final point for the Eagles at five singles with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over King.

Pinto's match -- which she was leading 6-3, 3-0 over Orellana -- was halted once the Eagles reached their fourth point.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 7 as the Blue Raiders travel to Brescia (Ky.) in Owensboro, Ky.
