Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss at the hands of NCAA Division I member Austin Peay State on Saturday.
The fourth-ranked Blue Raiders fall to 1-4 on the year with all four losses coming against NCAA Division I competition. Austin Peay State improves to 1-7 on the season.
The Governors got off to a fast start in both singles and doubles play and the lead proved to be too much for Lindsey Wilson to overcome.
At the No. 2 doubles position, Diana Gerlakh and Anna Gaprindashvili fell 8-2 to Hannah Tatlock and Jovana Karac in the opening match. Shortly after, Henar Munoz and Fiona Curty fell 9-8 (8-6) to Ornella Di Salvo and Vanessa Tavares at the top singles position in what proved to be the decisive match of the day. The victory secured the crucial doubles point heading into singles play.
Ana Helena Pinto and Alicia Rodriguez defeated Brittney Covington and Isabela Jovanovic 8-5 at the No. 3 doubles position, but the point had already been captured. Jessica King, who usually competes at the No. 1 doubles position with Rodriguez, did not play today due to an illness.
The Governors proceeded to capture the top three singles matches to secure the crucial fourth point and the match. Rodriguez fell 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1, Gerlakh fell 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 and Gaprindashvili fell 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3.
Despite Austin Peay State already securing the match, the Blue Raiders continued to battle and captured three wins at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions.
Munoz won 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 at No. 4, Curty won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 and Pinto won 9-7 at No. 6 as the match was played as an eight-game pro set.
