Women's Tennis falls at Lipscomb

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Playing its sixth NCAA Division I team this season, the Lindsey Wilson women's tennis proved to be competitive but ultimately fell 5-2 to Lipscomb (Tenn.) today at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.

Lipscomb claimed the first point of the day taking two of the three doubles matches for the 1-0 lead.

After each team won a doubles match, the doubles point came down to a tiebreaker in the No. 2-seeded match. Laura Kent and Danielle Kinnen outlasted Henar Munoz and Fiona Curty 7-1 in the tiebreak to take the decisive doubles match 8-7.

Hannah Gamage and Lorena Djuknic won the third-seeded match 8-5 over Ana Helena Pinto and Anna Gaprindashvili to put Lipscomb on the verge of taking the point. NAIA No. 2-ranked doubles team Alicia Rodriguez and Jessica King responded and forced the decisive match with an 8-4 win over Jenny Borck and Deahna Welcher in the top singles match.

Munoz and Pinto earned singles wins for the Blue Raiders.

Munoz captured the second-seeded match point with a 1-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (6) win over Kent. Earlier in the match, Pinto defeated Kathryn Evans 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 singles match.

While the team score appeared lopsided, the majority of the matches proved to be highly competitive -- a single service break separated the two teams in several sets.

Curty pushed Djuknic to the brink before falling 7-5, 7-6 (1) in the fifth-seeded singles match. King provided another tough out with a 7-5, 6-4 setback to Borck in the fourth-seeded match.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday, March 10 as the Blue Raiders travel to Reinhardt (Ga.) in Waleska, Georgia.
