Women's Tennis falls at Southern Illinois-Carbondale 6-1

Box Score

CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team fell to NCAA Division I member Southern Illinois-Carbondale by a 6-1 margin on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders fall to 1-5 on the year with all five losses coming against NCAA Division I institutions. The Salukis improve to 6-6 on the year with the win.

Ana Helena Pinto was the lone Blue Raider to capture a point for Lindsey Wilson, winning 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 6 singles position in the loss.

Lindsey Wilson was fighting from behind from the start as Southern Illinois-Carbondale captured the lone doubles point to begin the day.

Playing without top doubles player Alicia Rodriguez due to an illness, Diana Gerlakh and Jessica King fell 6-0 at the No. 1 doubles position to Natasha Tomishima and Meaghan Monaghan. Pinto and Henar Munoz then fell 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles position to Vitoria Beirao and Polina Dozortseva to give the Salukis the 1-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders were then swept in the first five singles positions before Pinto's victory at the No. 6 position.

Gerlakh and Fiona Curty both went into third sets at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles positions, but ultimately could not pull off the victory.

The Salukis just proved to be too much for the Blue Raiders to overcome as Lindsey Wilson falls in its third-straight match.

The Blue Raiders are now scheduled to host the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday in the 2015 home opener at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
