Women's Tennis Captures MSC Tournament title with 5-0 win over Cumberland

Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team completed a perfect run through the Mid-South Conference in 2015 by capturing the MSC Tournament title on Sunday over Cumberland (Tenn.) at Kereiakes Park.

With the 5-0 victory over the No. 20-ranked Bulldogs (12-8, 6-1 MSC), fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson (15-7, 7-0 MSC) has now won 11-straight MSC Tournament titles dating back to the 2005 season.

It also marks the 10th time in women's tennis history that the Blue Raiders have captured both the MSC regular season and tournament title in the same year.

The victory secured the MSC's automatic bid for the Blue Raiders to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in May.

Lindsey Wilson got off to a quick start by capturing all three points from the doubles matches.

The first point of the day came at the No. 3 doubles position as Alicia Rodriguez and Ana Helena Pinto grabbed an 8-3 victory over Trinidad Aguirre and Jasmine Shankar.

Henar Munoz and Fiona Curty followed shortly after with an 8-3 win of their own over Franki Jecker and Gisela Amor Garcia at the second-seeded doubles flight.

Anna Gaprindashvili and Jessica King completed the clean sweep with another 8-3 victory at the top doubles flight over Angelica Sepulveda and Tarsha de Souza.

In singles play, all six Blue Raiders quickly took a one-set lead over their counterparts. From there, Munoz, who ranks No. 12 in the ITA NAIA rankings, won 6-0, 6-4 at the top singles position over No. 21-ranked Sepulveda.

Curty then sealed the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the third-seeded singles match over Garcia to secure the title for Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders now begin preparations for the NAIA National Championships set to begin on May 12 in Mobile, Alabama.
