Women's Tennis cruises into national quarterfinals; beats UNOH 5-1

MOBILE, Ala. – Third-seeded Lindsey Wilson women's tennis bested No. 14-seed Northwestern Ohio 5-1 today in the second round of the 2015 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (16-7) advance to face sixth-seeded Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Lindsey Wilson captured two of the three doubles matches from the Racers to take a 2-1 lead into singles.

UNOH (18-7) grabbed the first point of the match with a win in the top-seeded doubles match. Melena Lopez and Vladica Djurdjevic defeated Jessica King and Anna Gaprindashvili 8-2 for the 1-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders quickly bounced back on the strength of the third-seeded doubles team. Ana Helena Pinto and Alicia Rodriguez evened the match with an 8-1 win over Raquel Marques and Lina Ramos.

Fiona Curty and Henar Munoz gave the Blue Raiders the 2-1 advantage with an outstanding comeback in the second-seeded match. After trailing 5-0, the Lindsey Wilson tandem won six straight games and ultimately beat Valeria Popko and Kate Bondarenko 9-7 entering singles play.

Lindsey Wilson captured all three completed singles matches in straight sets to earn the team win.

No. 12-ranked Henar Munoz dismissed 32nd-ranked Vladica Djurdjevic 6-3, 6-0 in the top-seeded match while No. 22-ranked Jessica King beat Kate Bondarenko 6-1, 6-1 in the third-seeded match to put the Blue Raiders on the brink of the win.

Anna Gaprindashvili captured the fifth team point with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Raquel Marques in the fifth-seeded match for the 5-1 win.

The rest of the matches were stopped once Lindsey Wilson secured the fifth point.

The Blue Raiders reach their eighth all-time quarterfinal appearance. Lindsey Wilson is 6-1 all-time in the national quarterfinals.
