No. 3 Women's Tennis falls to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday

RICHMOND, Ky. – The third-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team dropped their first match of the season on Saturday as they lost to NCAA DI opponent, Eastern Kentucky, 5-2.

The Blue Raiders (2-1) took two of the three double matches to earn an early 1-0 lead over the Colonels (4-3).

Eastern Kentucky took an early edge in the battle for the lone doubles point as the duo of Viktorija Demcenkova and Margaux Lacroix defeated Natalia Kattah and Gabriella Pedroza, 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. Lindsey Wilson started to battle back in doubles as Fiona Curty and Jessica King won doubles No. 2, 6-3.

In the final doubles match, Henar Munoz and Maria Prados Cid edged out Laura Argente and Raquel Montalvo, 7-6, as the Blue Raiders took a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Eastern Kentucky started to take control of the match at the beginning of singles play as Demcenkova defeated King at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-0) to tie the match, 1-1. The Colonels took the lead after Munoz lost to Argente at singles No. 1 in straight sets (6-2, 6-0).

At singles No. 4 Curty lost 6-3, 6-4 to Corentrine Bodin as Eastern Kentucky took a 3-1 lead. Kattah picked up the only singles win for the Blue Raiders at No. 3 singles after winning in straight sets (6-4, 7-6) against Marina Marti.

The Lindsey Wilson comeback was extinguished at No. 6 singles as Lacriox secured the victory for the Colonels after she beat Pedroza in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). In the final match at No. 5 singles, Prados Cid dropped the first set, 7-5, but she rebounded with a 6-2 victory in the second set to force a third set. Montalvo won the third set over Prados Cid, 1-0, after Eastern Kentucky had secured a 5-2 victory.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they face their second-straight NCAA DI opponent, Morehead State (Ky.), in Morehead, Ky., at noon CT.
