Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The third-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team snapped their two-match losing streak on Monday as they defeated 15th-ranked Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), 5-4, in their home opener.
The Blue Raiders (4-3) got off to a strong start as Maria Prados Cid and Gabriella Pedroza grabbed an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead. The duo of Henar Munoz and Natalia Kattah put Lindsey Wilson ahead, 2-0, after winning at doubles No. 1, 8-2.
Viktoria Monakhova and Faith Huckabee got the Tigers (1-3) on the board with a 9-8 (7-5) victory at doubles No. 2 over Fiona Curty and Jessica King.
Munoz regained the two-point lead for the Blue Raiders as she rebounded from a first set loss to defeat Priscila Nunez, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Seraphine Buchmann grabbed a three-set victory over King at No. 3 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, which pulled Olivet Nazarene back within one.
The three-set matches continued as Kattah won 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 over Monakhova at singles No. 2. With Lindsey Wilson leading 4-2, Prados Cid clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
With the match already in hand, Lindsey Wilson defaulted at No. 6 singles and Huckabee grabbed a 7-5, 3-6, 10-8 victory over Curty at singles No. 4. Despite Olivet Nazarene winning the last two matches, the Blue Raiders came away with a 5-4 victory.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action on March 19 at 1 p.m. CT, when they host Pikeville (Ky.) to start their Mid-South Conference schedule.
