Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. — The third-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 14 Cumberland (Tenn.) 8-1 for its fourth-straight victory on Friday afternoon at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders (7-3, 1-0 Mid-South Conference), who improved to 4-0 at home with the win over the Phoenix (5-5, 3-1 MSC), took a quick 3-0 advantage by sweeping the doubles matches.
In the first doubles match, Henar Munoz and Natalia Kattah defeated Angelica Sepulveda and Tarsha de Souza, who are the second-ranked doubles pair in the NAIA, 9-7. Fiona Curty and Jessica King won the second doubles match 8-2 over Trinidad Aguirre and Jasmine Shankar. Alex Shchipakina and Maria Prados Cid picked up the third doubles victory for Lindsey Wilson with an 8-4 win over Franki Jecker and Sarah Edwards.
The Blue Raiders won the next two singles matches to push the lead to 5-0 and secure the team victory. King, the 18th-ranked singles player in the NAIA, won her third-consecutive match 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match to put Lindsey Wilson up 4-0. Shchipakina won the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-2 to improve to 3-0 on the season in singles and seal the match for the Blue Raiders at 5-0.
In the No. 1 singles match, Sepulveda, who is the 14th-ranked singles player in the NAIA, defeated Munoz for Cumberland to make the score 5-1.
Lindsey Wilson won the next three singles matches to end the day. Curty, who is ranked 31st in the NAIA for singles, continued the roll with a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 4 singles match. Prados Cid took care of business in the No. 5 singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and Gabriella Pedroza picked up an 8-1 super set victory to finish the team match with the score 8-1.
The Blue Raiders return to the court for a non-conference match at Western Kentucky on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
