No. 7-seeded Men's Soccer defeats William Woods 5-2 Saturday in NAIA Opening Round

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 7-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team defeated William Woods (Mo.) 5-2 in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round Saturday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

Tyler Collishaw and Andres Riquelme each scored twice for the Blue Raiders (14-3-0). Mutaya Mwape also scored a goal for Lindsey Wilson. Stephane Dasse picked up two assists while Mwape, Riquelme Spencer Moeller and Collishaw each recorded one. The Blue Raiders held a 22-8 edge in shots with a 6-3 edge in shots on goal.

Lindsey Wilson got on the board first in the 24th minute. Moeller took a free kick that was headed on by Riquelme to Collishaw who was able to beat the Owl goalkeeper to the high right corner. Riquelme would increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute. Dasse sent a cross into the box, where Riquelme let it bounce off his hip and was able to put it past the goalkeeper. In the 42nd minute, Mwape played a through ball to Dasse who sent it to Riquelme. Riquelme would the finish near post for his second goal of the game to increase the Blue Raider lead to 3-0.

The Blue Raiders registered 12 shots in the first half with all three of their shots on goal finding the back of the net. Lindsey Wilson limited William Woods to just two shots in the half not allowing the Owls a shot on goal. There were 16 fouls and two cards in a physical first half.

William Woods got on the board in the 83rd minute. Matheus Schmid sent a cross into the box that found Rodrigo Alves who was able to put it past the goalkeeper in the low left corner to cut the Blue Raider lead to 3-1. After an Owl foul in the box, Collishaw took a penalty kick that was deflected away by the goalkeeper. Collishaw then headed in the deflection to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-1 in the 85th minute.

The Owls answered back with a goal just a couple minutes later. Darren Wilson sent a ball into the box where Anthony Moscatello sent a shot high that went in to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-2 in the 87th minute. Mwape put the Blue Raiders up 5-2 in the 89th minute after Collishaw flicked on a ball to him and he was able to send it past the Owl goalkeeper.

Lindsey Wilson advances to the NAIA National Championship Site in Delray Beach, Florida. The Blue Raiders face the winner of 10th-seeded Marymount (Calif.) and Westmont (Calif.) on Nov. 28 at 12:30 p.m. CT at the Seacrest Soccer Complex.
