Box Score DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – The No. 7-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team fell to the No. 10-seed Marymount (Calif.) 1-0 on a late goal by the Mariners.
LWC was outshot in the contest 14-10 as the two programs tied in shots on goal with three each.
In the first half, Lindsey Wilson was held to four shots, two on goal as Marymount (17-3-2) recorded six shots, one on goal. Lindsey Wilson received four corner kicks in the half but couldn't convert on the attempts.
The Blue Raider's best chance came in the 38th minute when Mutaya Mwape streaked down the middle of the field and forced the Mariners defenders to challenge him. Mwape was able to touch a pass through the defenders that found a streaking Tyler Collishaw who fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box. Goalkeeper Ramon Garcia was able to block down the shot to his defenders who then cleared the ball to safety.
The Mariners best scoring chance of the half came during the 14th minute by Enrique Amador who received a through ball and jostled for position with a Lindsey Wilson defender. After gaining a step, Amador was able to place a low shot towards the far post but LWC goalkeeper William Diaz was in the right place and turn the shot away.
The second half started off slow as the first 20-minute resulted in just three shots as two came via Lindsey Wilson but they both sailed wide of the goal.
During the 67th minute Mwape dribbled through Marymount defenders and positioned himself just outside the 18-yard box where he fired a shot that went just over the crossbar. Seven minutes later Collishaw received a free kick from 10 yards outside of the left side of the 18-yard box and found an open Yuta Yamamoto who headed the ball just wide of the goal.
During the 87th minute the Mariners Reece Alexander put the game away on an individual effort. Alexander weaved his was through Lindsey Wilson defenders and fired a low shot to the left post that beat a sprawling Diaz.
In the second half, Marymount recorded eight shots to LWC's six as each team put one on target.
The Blue Raiders finish the season with a 14-4-0 record.
