Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis fell 4-3 on Saturday to NCAA Division I Austin Peay State (Tenn.) at the APSU Indoor Tennis Courts.
The Blue Raiders (4-3) battled back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles to send the team match to a decisive match, but ultimately fell to the Governors (3-2) 4-3.
Alex Shchipakina and Jovana Peric captured the only Lindsey Wilson win in the doubles with a 6-2 victory over Brittney Covington and Alessandra Maganuco in the third-seeded match. The win came on the heels of Natalia Kattah and Maria Prados Cid falling in a tiebreaker in the top doubles match to Claudia Yanes Garcia and Lidia Yanes Garcia.
Playing NCAA Division I rules, the final doubles match decided the doubles point. Ana Albertson and Helena Kuppig helped the Governors claim the point with a 6-4 win over Fiona Curty and Minja Gligic in the No. 2-seeded match.
Kattah evened the match at 1-1 with the first completed singles match. Kattah improved to 4-2 in singles play this season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Albertson in the fourth-seeded match.
Austin Peay regained the one-point team advantage with a win in the top-seeded match. Lidia Yanes Garcia bested Shchipakina 6-4, 6-1 for the 2-1 team lead.
Curty won her second straight match this season and pulled the Blue Raiders even in the team competition with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Kuppig in the No. 3 match. Curty improves to 4-2 on the season with the win.
Claudia Yanes Garcia pushed Austin Peay State back in front in the back-and-forth match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gligic.
Prados Cid answered for the Blue Raiders in the sixth-seeded match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maganuco to send the team match to a decisive match. Prados Cid improves to a team-best 4-1 mark in singles with the win.
Covington provided the final point of the match to give the Governors the win. She defeated Peric -- who suffered her first singles loss of the season -- 6-4, 7-5 in the fifth-seeded match.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 12:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 26, as the Blue Raiders travel to Southern Illinois-Carbondale in Carbondale, Ill.
