Women's Tennis takes Southern Illinois the distance, falls 4-3

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- For a second straight day, the Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team extended an NCAA Division I school to the final match before falling 4-3. Southern Illinois handed the Blue Raiders the heartbreaking loss on Sunday at the SIU University Tennis Courts.

Southern Illinois grabbed an early lead by winning two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the team match.

Fiona Curty and Maria Prados Cid recorded straight-sets wins to tie the match at 2-2 midway through singles play.

Jovana Peric captured her fifth-seeded match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Polina Dozortseva to give Lindsey Wilson its first lead of the match at 3-2.

Southern Illinois responded winning the final two matches -- including winning the decisive match in a third set -- to take the team competition 4-3.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Saturday, March 4, as the Blue Raiders travel to Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Ky.
