Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis picked up its first win of the season on Saturday night, defeating host Bellarmine (Ky.) 6-3 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Blue Raiders (1-1) won two of the three doubles points and four of the six singles matches to hand the Knights their first loss of the season in three matches.
Fiona Curty and Maria Prados Cid secured the first point of the night with an 8-1 win over Jennifer Skonieczny and Nadia Sabie in the second-seeded doubles match. Alex Shchipakina and Jovana Peric increased the Blue Raiders lead to 2-0 with an 8-5 win over Sydney Thompson and Bess Fley in the No. 3 match to guarantee a lead heading to singles.
Bellarmine salvaged the final doubles point with a win in the top-seeded match. Maggie Walroth and Ashley Jonathan outlasted Natalia Kattah and Minja Gligic 8-6 to trim the deficit to 2-1 entering singles play.
Gligic provided a dominant performance in the No. 3 singles match for her first singles win of the season. She dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sabie for a 3-1 Lindsey Wilson lead.
In the top-seeded singles match, Walroth inched the Knights closer with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Kattah.
Shchipakina -- ranked No. 19 in NAIA singles -- won the first of three straight matches for the Blue Raiders. She won in straight sets (6-4, 7-5) over Skonieczny in the second-seeded match to extend Lindsey Wilson's lead to 4-2.
Curty provided the decisive point at No. 4 singles. She ran her singles winning streak to 18 matches with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Thompson for the 5-2 lead.
Prados Cid helped the Blue Raiders notch their final point of the night with at the fifth-seeded match while Pedroza fell in straight sets in the No. 6 singles match.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action Feb. 16-18 at the Southeast Challenge hosted by SCAD-Savannah in Savannah, Georgia.
