Women's Tennis continues winning streak, beats Georgetown 8-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis ran its winning streak to eight straight and remained perfect against NAIA competition today with an 8-1 win over Georgetown (Ky.) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders swept all three doubles matches and five of six singles competitions to improve to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference.

Alex Shchipakina and Natalia Kattah notched the first Lindsey Wilson point of the day in the third-seeded doubles match with an 8-1 win over Madelyn Kauffman and Abigail Kennedy. The Blue Raider duo improves to 6-0 on the season with the win.

Fiona Curty and Maria Prados Cid doubled the Lindsey Wilson lead in the top-seeded match. The Blue Raider tandem posted an 8-3 win over Shae Henry and Natalie Fiepke to secure a team-high 10th doubles win of the season in as many matches.

Jovana Peric and Minja Gligic made it a clean sweep in the remaining doubles match with an 8-3 win over Amanda Moore and Lauren Fazenbaker.

Shchipakina -- ranked No. 12 in NAIA singles -- posted the first singles win and the fourth Lindsey Wilson point in the top-seeded match. She won in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Henry.

Curty scored the decisive point in the third-seeded match. She defeated Amanda Moore 7-5, 6-1 to give the Blue Raiders the 5-0 lead.

The remaining matches continued with Prados Cid, Gligic and Kattah picking up singles wins for the Blue Raiders. Fiepke notched the lone Georgetown (10-4, 0-2 MSC) win of the day in the sixth-seeded match.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 1 as the Blue Raiders host Bethel (Tenn.) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
