RICHMOND, Ky. – The No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team won a thrilling 4-3 comeback match over NCAA Division I opponent Eastern Kentucky University on Sunday at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (5-4) rallied from a 3-0 match deficit with four-consecutive singles wins to top the Colonels (4-5).

Lindsey Wilson fell behind early after Eastern Kentucky grabbed the lone doubles point. NCAA scoring was used where a team is awarded one point from capturing two of the three doubles matches.

Kristina Lagoda and Marina Marti won the third-seeded doubles match over Alex Shchipakina and Jovana Peric with a clean 6-0 sweep. Fiona Curty and Maria Prados Cid then leveled the doubles standings after defeating Viktorija Demcenkova and Putri Dwinta at the top flight 6-1. Eastern Kentucky secured the doubles point after Laura Argente and Raquel Montalvo took down Minja Gligic and Natalia Kattah 6-2 for the 1-0 match lead.

Lindsey Wilson slipped further behind early into singles play when Lagoda defeated Curty at the No. 3 match 6-1, 6-1, and Kattah fell 6-0, 6-4 to Dwinta at the No. 4 flight to put Eastern Kentucky within one point of clinching the match with a 3-0 lead.

But that's when the Blue Raiders mounted their comeback, first with Shchipakina taking the top singles flight in straight sets over Argente 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 to put Lindsey Wilson on the scoreboard. Gligic then topped Demcenkova at the No. 2 match in three sets to make it a 3-2 lead. The freshman won the opening set 6-4, dropped the second set 6-3, before winning the final set 6-3.

Prados Cid leveled the score after winning the sixth-seeded singles flight in straight sets (7-6, 6-4) over Margaux Lacroix, making the decisive match the fifth-seeded flight.

The freshman Peric and Marti went to war in that flight with the first two sets both finishing 7-6. Peric took the opener 7-6 (7-4), only for Marti to even things up with her 7-6 (7-5) victory, forcing a third-set tiebreaker. In that decisive set, Peric fell behind early 1-0, but rallied back to take a 4-3 lead. She then won the next two points to take the set 6-3 and secure the match victory for the Blue Raiders.

It is the Blue Raiders first win over an NCAA Division I opponent this year in four tries. Lindsey Wilson had lost the three previous attempts against Western Carolina, Austin Peay State (Tenn.) and Southern Illinois, all by 4-3 margins.

The Blue Raiders are scheduled to return to action on March 7 for the home opener at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex against No. 6 William Woods on Tuesday.
