Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team added another top-10 victory on the season after defeating No. 6-ranked William Woods (Mo.) by a 5-0 margin in their home opener on Monday night at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The No. 2-ranked Blue Raiders (6-4) were in complete control from the start, winning all three doubles points in convincing fashion over the Owls (3-4).
Natalia Kattah and Minja Gligic began with an 8-1 victory over Alba Salinas and Felicia Cesar at the second-seeded doubles match. Maria Prados Cid and Fiona Curty topped Karyna Sagalai and Paige Smith 8-3 at the top doubles flight to make it 2-0. Alex Shchipakina and Jovana Peric then made it a doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory over Zlata Shuraeva and Chelsea Steward at the third-seeded flight to give LWC a 3-0 heading into singles play.
Gligic put the Blue Raiders within one point of clinching the match after Shuraeva retired in the second set. Gligic had won the opening set at the No. 2 singles matchup 6-3.
While Curty had just started a third set at the No. 3 singles match, Shchipakina secured the win with her 6-0, 6-3 win over Sagalai at the top singles flight for the 5-0 victory.
Monday's victory is the third shutout of the season for the Blue Raiders who are 4-0 against NAIA competition.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Friday for a 1 p.m. CT match at Union (Ky.).
