Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson opened up Mid-South Conference play tonight with a 2-0 victory over host Shawnee State (Ohio) at Shawnee Turf.
Mutaya Mwape and Franck Bikoya each scored in the win as Lindsey Wilson improves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-South. Mwape has now scored in all six games this season. He added an assist to increase his team-leading point total to 17 points -- seven goals and three assists.
Lindsey Wilson controlled much of the play, outshooting the Bears 25-5 for the match, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Both totals are season highs for the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson goalkeeper William Diaz had a relatively easy night, collecting a pair of saves for his third shutout of the season.
Mwape was active early, with a pair of shots and a corner kick in the first seven minutes of the game. He broke through in the in the 12th minute with an unassisted goal for the 1-0 lead. Ultimately, the goal would be Mwape's team-leading third game-winning goal of the season. The three game-winners are tied for the second most in the Mid-South this season.
The Blue Raiders maintained their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
It was more of the same in the second half. After an 11-1 shots advantage in the first half, the Blue Raiders outshot the Bears 14-4 in the second frame.
Bikoya added insurance with his first goal of the season in the 58th minute. Mwape provided the assist to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead.
Lindsey Wilson -- playing for the second time in three days -- played the remaining 32 minutes without giving up a shot on target to preserve the clean sheet.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 3, as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (Ky.) for another Mid-South Conference tilt.
