Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team opened Mid-South Conference play with an 8-1 road win over Cumberlands (Ky.) at the UC Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Blue Raiders (2-1, 1-0 MSC) captured all three doubles points before winning five of six singles matches for their 17th-consecutive victory over the Patriots (2-4, 0-1 MSC).
Fiona Curty and Lina Sachica Ramos teamed up to capture the first point of the day after downing Luka Lyttle and Denee Lyttle in a clean 8-0 sweep at the second-seeded doubles flight. Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric captured the next point with an 8-3 victory over Jaclyn Jewell and Tomomi Nagao at the top doubles match. Gabriella Pedroza and Lucia Mora Diaz completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Hannah Wampler and Haley Mahan at the third-seeded match to give LWC a 3-0 heading into singles play.
Diaz made it a 4-0 advantage after taking down Luka Lyttle in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 at the third singles flight. Peric then mathematically sealed the victory with her 7-5, 6-3 win over Nagao at the second singles match, making it 5-0.
Curty defeated Denee Lyttle 6-0, 6-2 at the fourth-seeded match before Gligic topped Jewell in the No. 1 singles flight in three sets, winning 6-0, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3. Ramos captured the final LWC point with her 6-0, 6-1 win over Marian Bogajo at the fifth-seeded match before Pedroza retired in the second set of her sixth-seeded match to give the Patriots their lone point of the day.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on March 24 for a home match against Cumberland (Tenn.).
