Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 2-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis dropped a 5-4 decision to No. 22 Union (Ky.) today at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The loss snaps the Blue Raiders' 37-match home winning streak. Prior to today, the last loss at Baughman for the Blue Raider women came on Feb. 18, 2012, to Western Kentucky.
Union (8-3) won two of the three doubles points, including a tiebreaker in the top-seeded match to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
The second and third-seeded matches were each shutouts.
Union's Christina Schoener and Alina Schweizer defeated Lucia Mora Diaz and Gabriella Pedroza 8-0 in the third-seeded match to take the 1-0 lead. Soon after the initial point, Fiona Curty and Lina Sachica Ramos blanked Brittany Lamb and Carla Delgado 8-0 to tie the match at 1-1.
In the top-seeded match -- that featured two ranked teams -- No. 21 Isidora Petkovic and Ljiljana Pajcin upset sixth-ranked Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric 9-8, winning the tiebreak 7-4 for the advantage following doubles.
Schoener posted the first singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Diaz to push the Bulldogs' lead to 3-1. Petkovic -- ranked seventh in the NAIA -- won the top-singles match over No. 31 Gligic 6-1, 7-5 for the 4-1 lead.
Curty -- ranked No. 29 in the NAIA -- posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Delgado in the fourth-seeded match to inch the Blue Raiders within 4-2. Curty improves to 2-1 on the season with the singles win.
Pajcin tallied the decisive point for Union with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 win over No. 17 Peric in the second-seeded match.
Ramos dropped just one game in her win over Schweizer in the fifth-seeded match while Chiara Epifani picked up her first career win in her season debut with an 8-5 superset win over Kacie Dotson in the sixth-seeded match.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (Ky.) for a Mid-South Conference match at the Lackey Tennis Center.
