COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team opened its 2018 home schedule with a 5-1 victory over William Woods (Mo.) on Sunday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The No. 2-ranked Blue Raiders (1-1) took two of three doubles matches before winning three singles matches to secure the top-10 victory over the No. 9-ranked Owls (2-2).

Jovana Peric and Minja Gligic gave Lindsey Wilson the early 1-0 lead after topping Karyna Sagalai and Julia Mulder at the top-seeded doubles flight by an 8-1 margin. Fiona Curty and Lina Sachica Ramos made it a 2-0 advantage after beating Zlata Shuraeva and Chelsea Steward at the No. 2 doubles flight 8-3. But the Owls avoided the sweep after Ana Zavala and Felicia Cesar defeated Lucia Mora Diaz and Gabriella Pedroza 8-5 at the No. 3 match to give LWC a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.

Mora Diaz made it a 2-0 day after she topped Julia Perez Wienese at the No. 3 singles flight 6-2, 6-2. Gligic followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sagalai at the top singles match to make it 4-1, and Peric secured the LWC victory after beating Shuraeva 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 2 flight to bring an early end to the match. The remaining three singles matches all went unfinished after the pivotal fifth point was reached.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Friday as the Blue Raiders travel to Cumberlands (Ky.) for a 2 p.m. CT matchup.
