Women's Tennis beats nationally-ranked pair today at Baughman

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis defeated a pair of top-10 opponents today at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders beat No. 10 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) 5-1 this morning and knocked off No. 6 William Carey (Miss.) 5-1 this afternoon to improve to 6-2 on the season.

Lindsey Wilson won two of three doubles matches and all three singles matches that were completed in the 5-1 team win.

Lucia Mora Diaz and Lina Sachica Ramos opened the day with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles and Minja Gligic and Jovana Peric -- ranked No. 6 in the NAIA -- won 8-6 in the top-seeded match to win the first two points of the day.

Cardinal Stritch (5-6) claimed its only point of the day with a win at No. 2 doubles. Fifteen-ranked Livia Hollosy and Lisa Keller knocked off Fiona Curty and Chiara Epifani 8-6 to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-1 heading to singles play.

Curty, Peric and Ramos each won their singles matches in straight sets to give the Blue Raiders the necessary five points for the win.

Curty posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Luise Gruber in the third-seeded match. Peric claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Antonia Elze to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-1 lead. Ramos dropped just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lisa Keller in the fourth-seeded match for the team win.

The remaining matches were stopped with Lindsey Wilson up a set in each match once the Blue Raiders won the fifth point.

Lindsey Wilson duplicated its morning match with a pair of doubles wins and three singles wins this afternoon in a 5-1 win over the Crusaders.

Gligic and Peric along with Diaz and Ramos each won their doubles matches to help Lindsey Wilson take a 2-1 lead following the first set of matches.

Curty and Peric picked up singles wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles to push the Blue Raider lead to 4-1.

Curty beat Nataliia Beliaeva 6-2, 6-1 while Peric defeated Maria Andreeva 6-1, 6-1 in the second-seeded match to put Lindsey Wilson on the brink of the win.

Gligic finished out the match with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 win over Wijitbanjong Pakkaro in the top-seeded match. Gligic won the final five points of the first-set tiebreaker for the one-set advantage and followed with a second-set win to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-1 win.

The rest of the matches were halted.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Monday, April 9 as the Blue Raiders host No. 19 Cumberland (Tenn.) in a Mid-South Conference match at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
