Women's Tennis loses at William Woods

FULTON, Mo. -- Fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis dropped just its second match of the season today with a 5-4 setback at No. 7 William Woods (Mo.) at Suzanne Neal Tennis Complex.

William Woods (7-5) won two of the three doubles matches and that ultimately decided the match. The Blue Raiders (5-2) and Owls split the six singles matches.

William Woods captured the match's first two points, winning at the second and third-seeded matches.

Lina Sachica and Alexandra Parra salvaged a point in the top-seeded match in a ranked battle. The Lindsey Wilson duo -- ranked 17th in the NAIA -- defeated fourth-ranked Zlata Shuraeva and Ana Zavala 8-6 in a tiebreaker to send the match to singles trailing 2-1.

William Woods sent ranked players to the court in all six matches.

No. 29-ranked Sachica pulled the Blue Raiders event with a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 27-ranked Perez in the second-seeded match. Eighth-ranked Shuraeva nudged the Owls back in front with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Parra -- who is ranked 24th in the NAIA -- in the top-seeded match.

Mora and McDonald both picked up hard-fought wins in the third and fourth-seeded matches to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-3 lead.

Mora needed three sets to beat No. 22-ranked Zavala 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 while McDonald edged 19th ranked Cesar 6-2, 7-6 (5) for the lead.

William Woods rebounded winning the final two matches in straight sets to pull off the upset.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 4 p.m. CT on Friday, April 5, as the Blue Raiders face No. 8-ranked Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) in Marion, Indiana.
