Women's Tennis Downs Thomas More; Advances to MSC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday

Owensboro, Ky. - The No. 2-seed Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team defeated No. 7-seed Thomas More (Ky.) 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference quarterfinals on Friday in Owensboro, Ky. This marked the Blue Raiders' second win in a row against the Saints this year, as Lindsey Wilson (13-2, 9-1 MSC) also bested Thomas More (5-11, 4-6 MSC) 6-1 in the final regular season match on April 12.

The 16th-ranked Blue Raiders began the competition by taking the doubles point. Alexandra Parra and Lucia Mora claimed the first victory by winning 6-0 against Kimberly Sabga and Matison Perry in the first-seeded match.

Reshma Challarapu and Salome Sposetti followed with a 6-0 victory of their own against second-seeded match foes Aman Dail and Sydney Johnson. Carla Alibert and Parisa Rachdanone were ahead 5-0 over Cassie Saner and Madi Carle when their third-seeded match was called because Lindsey Wilson had already claimed the point for doubles.

In singles play, all six Blue Raiders took the opening set. Sposetti was the first to earn a point for Lindsey Wilson. She kept her opponent, Dail, from winning a single game and won the fourth-seeded match 6-0, 6-0.

Challarapu mimicked Sposetti's performance with a 6-0, 6-0 victory herself against Perry in the second-seeded match. Mora, who is ranked 36th in the NAIA in singles, sealed the Blue Raider win by downing Sabga 6-1, 6-0 in the first-seeded match for the fourth and final point.

When play was called, No. 39-ranked Rachdanone was up 6-0, 2-0 over Saner in the third-seeded match. Alibert took the opening set 6-2, but was tied 1-1 in the second set of the fifth-seeded match with Jana Riffe. Yuno Oe was also winning against Johnson 6-2, 2-0 in the sixth-seeded match..

Lindsey Wilson advances to the MSC Tournament semifinals and will face No. 3-seed Campbellsville (Ky.) at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Centre Court in Owensboro, Ky.

The Blue Raiders lead the all-time series 24-4, including a 4-0 advantage in the postseason, and defeated the Tigers 5-2 earlier this year on April 3. Additionally, Lindsey Wilson claimed victory in each of the previous seven meetings.
