Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team won a physical matchup with Cumberland (Tenn.) 3-0 on Friday afternoon to advance to the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference Championship.
In a match that featured 19 fouls and nine yellow cards, the Blue Raiders (8-6-3) were able to slot home a first-half goal and two second-half goals to advance in the single-elimination tournament.
Monwabisi Mngqibisa notched the first goal of the contest and the eventual game-winner in the 24th minute. Alexander Koziolek and Mngqibisa played a give-and-go to put one goal on the board.
Lindsey Wilson added their second goal of the contest just over a minute into the second half when Jean Wikes scored. Sadam Masereka fired a shot that rebounded out to the top of the six-yard box. The ball found the head of Wikes who finished across a crowded line of Cumberland defenders.
Anouar Adam scored an insurance goal in the 71st minute off an assist from Mngqibisa to put the game away. His shot was from 40-yard out on the sideline as his attempts sailed over the keeper and into the goal.
Pablo Costa finished the game with four saves and his first clean sheet of the season. He moves to 6-4-1 on the season for Lindsey Wilson. The Blue Raiders outshot the Phoenix 14-10 including 5-4 in shots on goal in the contest.
The semifinals of the MSC Tournament will take place on Nov. 9 on the campus of the highest-remaining seed in the bracketed tournament. Times and matchups will be made available on lindseyathletics.com when they are available.
